Perseveres, Motivates Peers to Earn Award
Raleigh, N.C. – March 4, 2005
– Sports Radio 850 the Buzz and Coastal Federal
Credit Union announced today the latest recipient of
the
Scholar Athlete of the Month:
Will Craigle of Green Hope High School in Cary,
North Carolina. Will is being honored in part
because of his perseverance. He has managed to keep
up his grades, and participate on Green Hope’s
cross-country and track teams, all while undergoing
treatment for a brain tumor.
By recognizing the achievements of students like
Will, Coastal and The Buzz hope to encourage the
development of other students who serve as role
models to their peers. The credit union challenges
the community to join them in supporting the
station’s program.
“We are pleased to provide exposure to these young
athletes who excel both on the field and in the
classroom,” stated Brian Maloney, WRBZ 850 The Buzz
General Manager. “Additionally, through the
generosity of Coastal Federal Credit Union, these
schools receive funding to further improve the
educational process.”
Craigle is the twenty-fifth recipient of the
Scholar Athlete of the Month
award program, which was implemented in September of
2002. Since its inception, Sports Radio 850 The
Buzz and Coastal Federal Credit Union have awarded
$12,500 to area high schools in connection with the
Scholar Athlete
program.
The Sports Radio 850 The Buzz and Coastal Federal
Credit Union
Scholar Athlete of the Month
program accepts nominations from Triangle high
schools from August-May. Monthly winners are
selected from the large pool of applicants who excel
in sports and in academics. Winners receive
trophies and are interviewed for two-minute
vignettes, which air on WRBZ Sports Radio 850 The
Buzz for a month. The winners’ schools also receive
cash awards, which are presented by Coastal Federal
Credit Union, and biographies and pictures of the
winners are posted at 850thebuzzsuccess.com and
